As the owner of a dog with Separation Anxiety, I can confirm it's hard! Not being able to leave the house, not being able to go out with friends because I can't find anyone to sit with kylie or worrying that she'll scream the house down anyway because i've left her and no-one else will do. It's hard as a guardian to get the motivation to do the training, because you start to panic, wonder if it's worth the effort, may as well just stay at home for the rest of my life and become a hermit that only eats takeaway because I can't leave my dog....
But, as i have with Kylie, with small incremental steps of along time, so small that even kylie doesn't notice, I've grown her alone time to about 4 hours now. She still gets very excited that i've come home, but there's no howling, damage to the sofa, or barking so excessively that the neighbours complain. Also harnessing my habits of not wanting to leave her, and not panicking when i leave her. Simple things such as changing my routine in the morning (perfurme and keys are a massive clue to her that i'm leaving) so we keep calm and relaxed and don't bat an eyelid, rather than coming back to no sofa and a very scared dog.
As an SA pro, and not just because of my own kylie, I can help you set up for success. From camera's to watch your absences, to doing exercises to make the door boring to your dog, working on tiny steps of absence, and an app to help support you as well as 1:1's and daily what's app support, my SA training packages are designed to help you and your dog through small goals and wins! All my SA work is done via Zoom and What's app support, as well as the app you have access to throughout the package duration.
Your ultimate goal is to go out on your own without worrying about your dog. To have dinner with friends, or even the hairdressers. And your dogs goal is to realise that you going out, doesn't mean you are never coming back. Just that it's downtime and it's actually ok to be alone for a reasonable period of time.
